Cannabis Could Be the New Super Ingredient in Skin Care

CBD creams are coming out in many different industries. It’s not really a surprise that there’s some correlation between CBD creams and a reduction in psoriasis symptoms.

The potential for topical CBD treatments doesn’t end with acne. They may also help people with psoriasis get relief with minimal side effects.

Skin care is in, and the beauty industry is on the lookout for the next natural, plant-derived super serum.

Cannabinoids, or CBD, are a chemical compound found in marijuana, and they might be the ideal ingredient.

Marijuana has gotten more sophisticated in recent years, as weed has become legal in more and more states.

Currently, marijuana is legal recreationally in nine states and the District of Columbia, and medicinally in 29 states and Washington, D.C.

Vitamin D Could Provide Psoriasis Relief for Patients

Sunlight has long been known to aid in reducing the effects of psoriasis in those of us that are afflicted with the disease. This new study shows that it may go one step further and actually help by increasing the vitamin D levels in the body.

It’s interesting to think that simply increasing your vitamin D levels would work to decrease psoriasis symptoms.

New research suggests increasing vitamin D intake could reduce the symptoms of chronic inflammatory skin condition psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a relatively common condition, affecting an estimated two to four per cent of the population. It is characterised by reddened, raised, scaly patches of skin, which commonly occur on the elbows, knees and scalp but can affect any part of the body. Psoriasis can develop at any age and tends to be a lifelong condition.  For many people, it fluctuates in extent and severity, and can be challenging to manage despite the array of treatments on offer.

The Massey University study aimed to determine whether vitamin D supplementation improves psoriasis when compared with those taking placebo capsules. Dr Michelle Ingram, who conducted the research as part of her PhD in Nutritional Science says, “This study was partly motivated by observations that some people with report a reduction in symptoms during the summer months, when vitamin D production in the skin is usually at its highest. Vitamin D incorporated into a cream or ointment is also a relatively effective treatment for psoriasis, yet no one had looked into whether vitamin D supplementation might be of similar benefit.”

‘Laser fabric’ Treats Skin Diseases – An Easier Phototherapy

This is one of the more interesting advances in technology to come along in a while. So-called “Laser Fabric” could be worn to help with the difficulty of home phototherapy for some psoriasis sufferers.

Being able to simply put a piece of clothing on and treat your psoriasis would be great…not I just need them to make gloves.

Wearable photo dynamic therapy system said to improve patient experience in addressing acne, psoriasis and AK. French scientists at Texinov Medical Textiles have developed a knitted laser fabric that can treat skin diseases such as acne, psoriasis, and actinic keratosis with light.

Knitted laser fabric can treat skin diseases. Fluxmedicare has been developed in collaboration with a pan-European health consortium PHOS-ISTOS. Following successful clinical trials, the painless laser fabric will be the quickest device to the market, says the developer, which adds that the laser bandage “will be used to eradicate unwanted skin conditions, with no side effects”.

Initially developed to improve the treatment of actinic keratosis (AK) – rough, scaly patches on the skin that develop from years of exposure to the sun – the light emitting textile is said to “be able to treat and even cure a number of skin complaints such as acne, Paget’s disease, psoriasis, and other diseases like baby jaundice”.
